LOOKING TO THE FUTURE IN A MICHIGAN DIVORCE

Latest Articles

Nearly 50 percent of all marriages in the country end in divorce. Still, its frequency does not keep it from being one of the most devastating experiences a couple can go through. Many Michigan couples tend to focus on what went wrong with the marriage. It can be difficult to get through the divorce process while hanging onto the past.

This can lead to a lengthy, expensive divorce and cause additional tension in an already challenging situation. Plenty of Hollywood movies attest to the fact that divorce can bring out the worst in people, but it does not have to be that way. Many contentious divorces are born out of anger, hurt and guilt. These feeling are valid, but can potentially take away the parties right to choose their own futures.

Judges, though well-meaning, are bound to make decisions solely based on the law and the facts presented to them. When the parties to a divorce negotiate their own settlement, it can be more personal and tailored to the lives the parties, and their children, if any, deserve. It may not be easy, but putting aside the issues surrounding the end of the marriage and focusing on the future can not only help the parties negotiate a fair and equitable settlement, but begin the healing.

It might be difficult to find anyone in Michigan who believes divorce is easy. However, the parties can make it less of a challenge by doing what they can to make it amicable. Regardless of what led the couple to divorce, there is life after divorce, and doing whatever it takes to focus on that can help ensure the parties reach a settlement that can give them the best possible start in their new lives.
