Ask just about any couple in Michigan to pinpoint how the two of them knew that they were in love with each other, and it may be a struggle to answer. A couple going through a divorce may have the same difficulty identifying how they fell out of love. Having some sort of warning sign might have helped the couple save or end their marriage before the relationship degraded any further.
Some people spend more and more time away from home. Something else always takes priority — work or friends become more important than his or her spouse. Daydreams of being single again come more often than just a passing thought once in a while.
Spouses tend to find more at fault with each other than they used to in the beginning. There may not be any animosity or hurt, just a general feeling of not wanting to be with each other any longer. It could just be as simple as realizing that the relationship is not working out the way either party intended.
If neither party wants to save the marriage, this could be the time to discuss divorce. The couple is still getting along well enough to amicably end their marriage without having to rely on a Michigan court to make decisions for them because they are unable to get along. Preserving what feelings the couple has for each other could be especially helpful if children are involved.
Negotiating a divorce settlement without the assistance of the court leaves the control of the future with the couple. More couples walk away satisfied that they were treated fairly when each party has a say in how it ends. There is also a better chance of laying out a parenting agreement that truly benefits the children and the parents.
