Child custody cases can be emotional and, in some cases, difficult to sort out. They can even be difficult to sort out for celebrities.

Recently, country singer Mindy McCready found herself in trouble with the law after taking her son during a visit last month to her father’s home in Florida. Currently, McCready does not have child custody of her five-year-old son.

A judge signed an order allowing authorities to take the boy into custody after it was discovered the singer had taken him. The young boy and his mother were found in a home in Arkansas. The Florida Department of Children and Families said they were working with Arkansas officials to reunite the boy with his legal guardian, McCready’s mother, who also lives in Florida.

The father of the young boy said he sounded happy and healthy when he spoke to him over the phone. He says the singer believes she has a case.

McCready gained fame in the mid-1990’s after she moved to Nashville when she was just 18. Her first record sold two million copies. Most recently, she was seen on television as part of Dr. Drew Pinsky’s “Celebrity Rehab.”

In addition to child custody issues, the singer has dealt with severe depression. In 2008, the singer apparently attempted suicide.

The singer says she is now seven months pregnant with twins.

Child custody issues can quickly become heated. Those that are facing child custody issues should be fully educated on the relevant family laws to be sure their rights are protected.
