EXPECT THE PERFECT MARRIAGE? YOU COULD END UP IN DIVORCE COURT

There are countless issues that married couples face. From paying bills to deciding whether to have children to figuring out if buying that new car is really necessary right now, marriage is not always romance, candlelight and flowers. Sadly, many couples expect smooth sailing and are surprised when bumps in the road crop up. For others, despite the best efforts they invest in a marriage, it simply doesn’t work out. Divorce is the answer for many of these couples to move forward in a more positive manner.

One recent report talks about myths that some couples in Michigan and the rest of the country sometimes buy into, which can give them unrealistic expectations. First, it can help to remember that there is no perfect mate. Everyone has flaws and characteristics that will grate on a partner’s nerves, but communicating about which ones are irritating may keep the situation from escalating. Also, it doesn’t help to think that nagging someone until they change their behavior will work; that will likely just cause resentment.

Another danger can be believing that you need someone else to be complete, something that can just feed insecurities. Keep in mind that getting married is a journey, where both partners are learning about each other along the way. While the trip can be a worthwhile one, it can be as much about learning about a person’s self as about a spouse.

Even the most realistic of Michigan couples still set their expectations too high for their partners to reach. Both partners are human, bound to make mistakes and hurt each other. In some cases, there will simply be differences that may make the couple incompatible and could lead to the need to file for divorce. When this does occur, each spouse may need to seek a thorough understanding of their rights in order to make sure they protect their assets and preserve their child custody rights when they file for divorce.
