SO FAR NO SPOUSAL SUPPORT REQUEST IN ASHTON KUTCHER DIVORCE

Latest Articles

Usually when Michigan couples file for divorce, the news doesn’t make the headlines as is often the case with celebrity divorces. Nonetheless, going through a divorce is an emotional time for anyone, regardless of status. Spousal support is one matter that is commonly addressed during divorce proceedings.

Well-known celebrity Ashton Kutcher recently filed for divorce from equally famous actress Demi Moore after a yearlong separation. Reports indicate that neither a spousal support request nor an attempt to prevent one is present in the divorce filing. Some say that the filing of divorce erases the rumors that the couple was never legally married. Others suspect that Demi Moore is stalling in an effort to potentially negotiate a larger settlement.

Some are speculating that Moore may be hoping to cash in on some of Kutcher’s earnings from his new job on the hit series, Two and a Half Men. Spousal support is different from child support in that it is not a requirement. The court determines whether such an arrangement is necessary.

It isn’t yet entirely clear whether spousal support will be requested when Moore responds to the divorce filing. Some estimate that this divorce could cost close to $300 million. It might not become clear whether the couple is trying to work things out amicably until Moore files her response with the court.

Divorce can become messy and settling amicably is what many Michigan residents often hope for. However, every case is different and even a divorce that first appears amicable can take a turn for the worse. To help ensure a fair settlement, it is important that spouses who could face a potential spousal support case work to understand all of their rights and responsibilities during the divorce process.
